GEORGETOWN, Guyana (AP) -- Cuban Foreign Minister Filipe Ramon Perez Roque will arrive in Guyana Monday for a two-day visit to discuss trade with local and Caribbean Community officials, Guyana's Foreign Ministry has announced.

Perez Roque will meet with Caribbean Community Secretary General Edwin Carrington about the trade group's consideration of establishing free trade with Cuba. Cuba has observer status in the 15-member Community, based in Guyana.

Guyana already trades with Cuba through a t commission established in 1993 to oversee trade and other relations between the countries. Perez Roque will discuss the work of the commission with local officials during his visit, the Guyanese Foreign Ministry announced Saturday.

Perez Roque will meet with Guyanese President Bharrat Jagdeo, Foreign Minister Clement Rohee and other officials during his first visit to the South American former British colony, the ministry said.

Guyana established diplomatic relations with communist Cuba in 1972.
