HAVANA, March 1 (Fara Armenteros, UPECI / cubanet.sergipeconectado.com) - News of the
incident at the Mexican embassy in Havana led a number of people in the
provinces to pack and come to Havana in case some possibility of leaving the
island arose.
Travelers from Santa Clara and Matanzas boarded the train on February 28 "just
to be near," said one from Manzanillo. They typically carried a shopping
bag with soap, a toothbrush, some food and a change of clothing.
A man waiting in line who said his name is Clemente, said "It's been
shown again, Cubans applaud with their hands, but every time there's an
opportunity, they vote with their feet."
A young medical student, accompanied by his girlfriend and other friends,
coming back from Miramar, site of the Mexican embassy, after confirming that
police would not let them get close to the embassy, said "Neither lumpen,
nor antisocial. They always say that about people who leave the country."
