GÜINES, November 5 (José Izquierdo, Grupo Decoro /
cubanet.sergipeconectado.com) - A number of cases of dengue fever have been detected in Güines,
southern Havana province, and health authorities have been spraying the area in
an effort to eradicate the mosquito that transmits the disease.
Local resident Orestes Hernández said hundreds of houses are sprayed
daily, most of them located in the areas known as Las Yaguas, Manuel Ascunce, La
Quinta, Leguina, and Chamble.
Hernández attributed the proliferation of the Aedes aegypti mosquito
to the irregularity of garbage pick-ups in Güines. Make-shift dumps can be
seen throughout the city, Hernández said.
