FROM CUBA Pay phones taken away in Havana 147325

HAVANA, November 5 (cubanet.sergipeconectado.com) - s of the Cuban telephone company announced they were taking away pay phones in an under-served area of Havana because the service was not profitable.

The phones, located in front of a kiosk at Albear and 5th Streets, in the Palatino district of El Cerro, served an area of approximately 12,000 s with a density of 800 per telephone.

Officials of the Popular Power [local government] have appealed to the phone company to install at least five phones in the area without success.

Residents, predictably, were upset with the measure. s often have to wait in line for up to an hour to use a public phone.
