FROM CUBA Pedicab leader detained for transporting Italian tourists in Cuba 1f222p

HAVANA, Nov. 26 (cubanet.sergipeconectado.com) - Milton Melndez Reinaldo, secretary general of the Union of Pedicab Drivers, was held for 48 hours last week after being arrested while transporting two Italian tourists.

The union leader was released after being assessed a fine of 750 dollars, more than twice the average monthly salary.

The arresting officers prevented the Italian tourists from paying Melndez Reinaldo.

It is illegal to transport tourists in pedicabs, which are reserved for the use of local residents.
