FROM CUBA Shoddy construction in newly-opened polyclinic in Cuba 5hu19

HAVANA, August 4 (Reinaldo Cosano Aln / cubanet.sergipeconectado.com) - The "Mario Muoz Monroy" polyclinic in Guanabo, east of Havana just opened in May and already it is showing serious problems resulting from shoddy construction.

The laundry, for instance, cannot be used because it floods. The five new washers that were installed shock s, partly as a result of the wet floors, and the last two operators refused to work in the laundry.

The cause of the flooding: the drain pipes used in the building are under-size. Workers have recently dug up the floor to replace them.

"Ever since its opening, the clinic has had problems," said Guanabo resident Maria Elena Mir. "There's no X-ray service because the department is not finished. Same thing with Ophthalmology. Orthopedics doesn't have an area to set casts, and the labs don't have all the equipment they need. They forgot to build the storage room, even though it was in the plans, so they had to use two examination cubicles as a storage room."

"The offices are hot," said a doctor who did not want to be identified. "Maybe that will be an advantage in the cold of winter."
