FROM CUBA Musicians in Bayamo haven't been paid for Carnival 6az1c

HAVANA, Cuba, August 20 (Vctor Manuel Domnguez, Lux Info Press / cubanet.sergipeconectado.com) - About a hundred musicians who played in the Carnival festivities August 4 to 8 complain they haven't been paid the agreed-upon wages.

The musicians who played during Carnival are drawn from the Municipal Concert Band and from other organizations, as it is forbidden to engage non-professionals in any activity that represents the culture in the territory.

The Provincial Center for Music and the committee authorized by the local government to stage the Carnival celebrations agreed upon the payments for rehearsals between July 1 and 28, and for the actual performance in August.

Now, authorities say they are missing a signature from a representative of the committee certifying the participation of the musicians, and irregularities on the part of cultural authorities in the g of the contracts.

Jos Torns, a musician, said these are all lies, because the same story is repeated every year and the musicians have to jump through hoops to get paid for their work.
