Cuban woman lands in America in a wooden crate at MIA 31bt

Sun-Sentinel. Posted August 25 2004.

MIAMI -- A Cuban woman arrived in America packed inside a wooden crate box aboard a cargo flight that landed at Miami International Airport around 10 Tuesday night, federal immigration authoities said.

Employees for DHL, an international shipping company that has a terminal at the airport, found the woman stuffed inside a large wooden crate.

Officials say the cargo flight originated in Cuba and stopped in Nassau, Bahamas, before landing in Miami.

They have not yet figured out where the woman entered the box.

Also, federal immigration officials are trying to determine if she is a migrant who should be allowed entrance to the country or if she is technically a stowaway, which could mean she can be sent back to her homeland.

The woman, who is in her 20s, was not immediately identified. She was reported in good condition. She is in immigration custody now.
