Police raid street vendors in Cuba 6a3s3m
SANTA CLARA, Cuba, August 29 (Javier Machado,

- Police here launched a raid against street
vendors this week, arresting them and confiscating
their wares.
Wednesday, several police and taxation
authority inspectors hit the Mercado de
Carretera de Sagua. A number of the vendors
there just stampeded, leaving their goods
behind. Others were arrested and taken to
police headquarters, where they were asked
to explain where they obtained the products
they were selling. Yet others were fined
or issued warnings.
Later that same day, police raided the
vendors at the Paseo de la Paz Avenue, where
many of them were selling avocados, lemons,
cheese, tamales, guava paste and other products
consumers demand.
Police also hit the money changers and
vendors in the city's historic center.
